Step 1: Prepare yourself to have a wonderful time and schedule in advance before going! Buy everything you can as soon as you can to lock down these great prices! As spring break gets closer, prices for the airplane are likely to go up!

Step 2: Best week to go After the 4th of July Weekend, 6th Sun – 14th Mon (July 4th Friday, 5th Sat, 6th Sunday)

The week you go and which day you arrive and depart can make a big difference in saving you money. If you can alter your trip this will decrease the price you pay for your plane ticket! such as leaving  1 day earlier or coming back 1 day later. I already found you the best possible cost and worked out all the logistics so you don’t have to.

Step 2.5: Parking: The best place to park is at a terminal that is only $2 a day! An amazing price for the 10 days you’ll be away on your spring break Miami trip. Once parked at this location

Middletown Station

270 West Emaus Street

Middletown, PA 17057

Bus Station Parking

It’s about 1.3 miles of walking, so about 30 minutes to get to airport from bus station. Allow extra time before the flight to account for the walking to the airport. I’d travel light with just a backpack so there is no carry-on fee. This also helps walking to the airport and from one hostel to the next. It will be easier and you’ll save money!!

Step 3: Choosing the airport (Philly Airport)

It’s all about those major airports.

Choose a large airport in your area or 20 minutes -4 hours away. Residing in the lovely state of Pennsylvania meant driving to Philadelphia International Airport. in a Subaru Legacy (regular gas). This got me to get to the nearest major airport. Harrisburg was also another travel option. If you have a premium gas car, it will be around $3.55 today. Find the cheapest gas station in town to get gas from before leaving!

Tip: The secret is having it all figured out ahead of time before you go!

Tip: Have Everything paid ahead of time before you leave and all the money left over will be for fun times and memories!

Step 4: Choose a date to go (March 6th-12th)Because I am awesome, I did the logistics to make it work for leaving on a Sunday. This is the cheapest day and will give you the luxury experience! You can scroll down if leaving on Friday works better due to having an important class or test.  The best date to go is March 6th, Thursday, and come back on Saturday from your solo trip on your spring break Miami trip. That will give you one day once you get back to absorb all the good memories

After July Flight

S t e p 5: March 6th-March 12th Link to google flights to buy plane ticket Alright, so lets get those plane tickets from Frontier for a crazy good price of $58, and that is how we cut down the cost a crazy amount!!

miami jul 6th -12th flight times

S t e p 6 :  After you land in Miami City at 9:07 am or 8:51pm , depending on which flight you took, you’ll need a shuttle to get you to where you’ll sleep. The best is this luxury hostel not just because it has a rooftop pool, but because it also has a shuttle to get you from the airport to South Beach Hostel. Hostels are great since people from all over the world travel to Miami city and other people will be there from spring break too. Maybe other Psu students if others realize how amazing an opportunity it was.

Why was Thursday chosen? The reason the Thursday flight was chosen was so you can sleep in a luxury hostel for 1 night! If it was a Friday you’d have to get a 2-night minimum making the price too much. which is why it isn’t in the option below for leaving on the Friday date.  taking an Uber makes the most sense. The reason it’s also only one night is to get you to the next hostel which has dinner as part of the experience.

Step 7: After buying the hostel ahead of time Now it’s time to reserve sleeping at the next hostel. This next hostel is within walking distance. This hostel will be where you make friends for the week! It’s also where you will be eating breakfast and dinner. For lunches, I would recommend a pizza or nothing at all to keep cost at a minimum. Here is the link for the hostel to stay at from the 8th Sat to the 15th Sat. This is great timing since everyone else will be arriving at this time. so a chance to get to know everyone for a week by doing this!

After this, you’ll need to get an Uber at the end of the week back to the airport. It should be around $10 to get to the airport.

$58(plane)+

$45(gas)+

$20(parking)+

$30(uber)+

$60(hostel 1 and shuttle)

$282(hostel 2 and food)= $493!!

$494 plus assume there’s another $26 in fees and taxes, so $80 for food, and drinks( bar crawl)

$600

Option 2: If you want to leave on a Friday instead of a Thursday on your spring break Miami trip

March 8th Fri -March 15th Sat

Google flights scan all the other sites in a nice and easy way. It even enables you to see the prices of the different dates. The secret of the day is to use google flights to find the cheapest days to fly in and out. then use those same dates in Student universe (if you are a student.)

step 5.1: If you are on spring break and the break officially begins on Friday, it’s okay to leave 2 days earlier, so you can save money. Your professors will understand if you do the work ahead of time. The flights on Thursday are usually the cheapest. The price of your Miami flight should be around $232 with around $30 in taxes. Bonus… if you plan way ahead you can get a trip for $139 round trip. (actually $119 with my coupon right here and mentioned below!!!!) Also, check farmers almanac to see what the weather predictions will be like the week you are in Miami.

what to bring: It’s Miami City so bring 2 pairs of shorts, and a shirt for every day you are there. Be sure to bring something stylish and you’ll easily stand out from everyone else. Everyone will be in their tank tops and bathing suits. Bring 2 bathing suits! You should be able to fit everything in a backpack, and a small duffle bag. Bring a lock for the locker, band-aids, and Advil for others. You’ll also save money not bringing a real suitcase.

Important note: if you have a friend that’s a student that has flown before use their code on student universe or use this code I provide to get you more of a discount and hey it helps me out too.

Here’s link to save $20 off your flight!

Step 6.1: Congrats you’ve booked the most expensive part of your entire trip!

Step 7: Alright so now your trip to and from Miami is taken care of. Next, you will need to start planning how you will get there with a car, and where you will park your awesome car. (p.s) if you own any car at all, it’s an awesome car because it enables you to get to Miami! I will also be getting into taking the bus . This can also cut down costs significantly as well. If you have an awesome car that uses premium gas try to trade it with one of your friends or family members. this enable you to get a car that gets better gas mileage and uses regular gas.

Step 8: Okay time to start taking action. To figure out the cost of your trip by car use gas buddy . THis allows you to find the cheapest places to get gas and figure out the exact cost. Search online for your car, make, model, and year and find out its mpg on the highway and city. Enter these numbers into a gas buddy. Also, open google maps and type the destination you are leaving from and where the airport is to see how many miles it is.
Example: Let’s say you have the most common car in America a Toyota Camry 2011. mpg 22/33
If the miles traveled is around 400 miles for the price there and back it should be around $30. Once you get there you’ll need to find a place to park your car for the amount of time you are there.

Step 9:

Link Parking Rabbit StationSearch around the airport by searching (your airport) airport parking cheap in Google. I personally found the best value to be Econo Lodge In Philadelphia since it was 14 minutes away, and had a shuttle to get me to the airport. I paid $45 after all the fees for the whole week (7 days).

So if you add up how much has been spent so far that’s a total of

$93 Plane ticket +$45 gas for car     +$18 parking         =$156. Pretty great so far!

Step 10: This is the last step to try to find a place that serves breakfast as well as dinner and is included in the price. This is how you beat the system and stay under that $600 budget! Having the place you are staying with food provided is how you ultimately stay under budget. Food obviously isn’t a high priority for me.

If food is a priority for you I have some great tips to keep extra money spent on food to a minimum. Let’s just focus on finding a place to stay first. Hostels which are bunk beds all placed in the same room really cuts down costs.  it’s a great way to make new friends too. This leads to a price drop because to rent out the room to just you would cost around $210, but if you divide that into 6 people sharing the room it’s about $35 a night!

Step 11: Let’s find a place for you to stay for the week with the help of some great coupons. As soon as you start trying to find hotels definitely right next to the beach that’s when you see prices around $210+. We don’t want that cause the price would be well over $600… very fast. The best way to find the best places to stay is through Airbnb where you can utilize hostels and even people’s homes. I recommend hostels since they have some great ones really close to the beach, and food is included! Hostels also offer an amazing chance to socialize.

Tip: If you see anyone on their phone at the hostel they want you to approach them. they don’t have anything better going on and these people are perfect to walk up.  ask this simple question, “Which country are you from?” everyone is from all over the world in hostels for the most part so it’s a great way to get to meet new interesting people. Tip: if they don’t speak any English get out Google translate and be prepared to laugh and have a good time struggling with the language barrier.

Step 12:Luxury Hostel Link (rooftop pool) March 7-9th 2 nights $196 Search Airbnb and look for hostels in the South Beach part of Miami where the beach is really close by and everything is within walking distance. Search for places under the price range of $40 a night. I found a place for $35 a night for the whole week. $35×7=$245, but this is just too much, so if it’s your first time using Airbnb then use this coupon code Lifestylehacker AIRBNB coupon. so now your price should be $225.

Step 13:Breakfast Dinner Hostel link (South Beach Rooms) 8th-15th $247

The hostel I chose had breakfast and dinner. Here’s the link Hostel room, share bedroom (Breakfast/Dinner Free).

So a $196 Rooftop pool hostel+$247 Breakfast dinner hostel =$443. This hostel is geared toward anyone under 30 years old since it has music that starts playing in the lobby around 6pm. It’s like a party hostel and a good chance to socialize. This hostel can be as low as $29 a night if you plan ahead! In terms of food, find the places you will be eating at ahead of time or you could eat with your new friends if they want to eat out. I recommend Pizza!  if you all buy a pizza together the price can be as little as $2.50 for 2 big slices. Book your place now!

Step 13: After you have booked your place, you are set and you even have your whole food situation set up, and a place to stay all in one! The next thing you will need to address is how you get from the airport to the hostel, and the hostel back to the airport. Uber is surprisingly cheap on your spring break Miami trip! This is because there are so many cars in Miami and so many people traveling all the time which makes it easy to do an Uber pool (other people are in the car already and you tag along). The cost from the airport to the hostel should be around $15, don’t be surprised if it’s less than this! so $15 both ways is around $30.

Step 14: The local buses are also a nice option once you are in south beach Miami! The price is $2.25 for the bus to travel around. The 25C hack is if you only have $2 they will still let you ride. Let’s add up how much we spent overall for Spring break Miami trip which includes the beach which is 3 minutes away and it’s free!

Step 15: $93(plane)+$45(gas)+$18(parking)+$30(uber)+$443(hostel and food)=$590!!

So mission accomplished and of course, it is Miami city, so you can’t just go to the beach every day you’ll want to do other things as well because you will meet awesome people. It takes some discipline when you tag along with friends and not eat. Wait till  you get back to the hostel for dinner.

Step 16: Extra expenses: Drink at the hostel are $20 and include a bar tour, a Pool party at a hostel cost $20.
